Day 1: opening ceremony and lectures

Day 1 set off a very productive conference! Starting from the opening and welcoming remarks from the President and Vice President, to an excellent lecture by Dr. Bauer, to the rest of conference talks. Weather was hot today, yes, but none of us melted, thankfully, and it did not rain. Cheers 🙂
